Captain Moonlight.

We seem to have a fascination with bushrangers at the moment. I suppose because we heard their stories from childhood and every Aussie kid would run around pretending to be one (or a cowboy) Once we found out that Captain Moonlight had a hideout cave we could visit, we were there in a flash. It was a short walk but down a very steep hill. This is the hideout cave of Captain Moonlight.

A little further down the road we also found his grave....

I don't think there was much of a future in becoming a bush ranger... They all died young.... Talkies soon X Sonia n John

Parkes and the Dish, Ben Hall and the lovely Forbes.

Parkes is of course well known for the famous. "Dish". This dish was responsible for telecasting some of the first moon walking pictures during the first moon walking by Neil Armstrong and co. Parkes is also well known for the Elvis festival it has annually where the town is inundated with hundreds of Elvis and Pricillas. It is a very pretty town but we stayed at the show ground which in no way reflects this. Cheap and no frills would describe it I suppose. The best thing about this camp spot was the shower. It was brilliant. Hot and loads of pressure but pity about the dirty awful cubicle. But to be fair it was late and very cheap so once in a while you can put up with that. We set off to see the dish the next day. Very cool and best of all free. We did watch some three D films about Mars which were fascinating. Also bought some little Mars binoculars for Summer and Connor.

Once we had seen this famous icon it was off to the little town of Forbes. Forbes is perhaps one of the prettiest places. They have a beautiful freecamp just on the banks of the river and it is not uncommon to have hundreds of travellers parked here. It is a huge area and we managed to have a spot right on the river. Can you believe that something so nice is free.

Forbes has a history steeped in bushrangers. There are graves at the cemetery of famous ones and I will let you see for yourself.

We stocked up on the essential in their local IGA which is immaculate and the overall impression is fresh! I would love to have stayed here for a week but on ward and upward to more adventure Talkies soon Xx Sonia n John
