Tom Price

We left Coral Bay early Friday morning on the 3rd September, making our way further north.

These anthills are everywhere

We dreaded the fuel prices at Nanutarra as we had heard they could be around the $2.00 per Litre mark. However we were pleasantly surprised and found the price to be the same as coral bay. Instead of going the coastal highway,  we decided
to have a look at Karijini National Park. I had heard so much about it for many years, so this was the chance.
From Nanutarra to Tom Price we punched head long into a strong easterly breeze and travelled upwards to a heighth of about 1 km above sea level, and could see the fuel gauge on the Pajero dropping rapidly. We used almost a full tank of fuel to cover 300 km. We hope that’s about as bad as it gets!
The scenery began to change and soon there were hills and greenery much different with rolling spinifex covered hills and ranges and very bright red dirt.

On our way through Paraburdu

The real red dirt and spinifex.
Of course I wanted to photograph every new flower and whilst I did get some, there were many that the driver did not stop for. Something about "never getting there" was the main reason....

One that found my camera

We arrived in Tom Price and booked in for 2 days at the Tourist Park.  (The only park in town) The park itself is very old but is grassy and shady, with big bays.

Caravan Park in Tom Price at the bottom of Mt Nameless.

We were greeted every morning with various types of birds waiting for a feed of crackers.  We enjoyed feeding them as they were as tame as anything! Lizzy would've given them all of our biscuits if I hadn't told her to stop.

So Tame

We visited the highest mountain in WA with car 4WD access only (Mt Nameless). I must admit I was terrified at how high we were going, in such little time. Lizzy and John were just giggling away at me as I was biting my nails in fear. The views were breathtaking with all the colours of the Pilbara to be seen.  We made it right to the top and there were quite a few people up there. Its surprising how, in the middle of nowhere, there is such a congregation of people.  We stepped out of the car but every time John and Lizzy went to check out the views of the mountain, I would yell out “John, Lizzy.. Don’t go near the edge” and panic as my knees went to jelly.  I cant begin to describe the colors so will just let you see by the photos.

Saturday was a day of rest when Lizzy found a gym.. HOORAY!! John stayed in the caravan watching his favourite AFL team, the Dockers thrash Hawthorn. Me on the other hand sat outside under the awning trying to crack the hardest of hard puzzles and just general reading of magazines.  I am interested in a just released book called "Honeymoon Dive" and have not yet been able to find it on our travels but will keep looking.
John found it very strange to be back in Tom Price after having worked there 35 years ago as a young constable. He showed us around the town which had changed immensely but the police station was still the same old  building it was before but in worse condition.  We also saw the unit he stayed in all those years ago.

The High School where Lizzy;s friend Laina attended

A lovely park called King Lake.

Well that’s about it for Tom Price... Talk to you all soon and don’t forget, keep those comments coming in 
